Pride Month 2021

This year, the theme for Pride in London is ‘Visibility, Unity and Equality’, and these core values remind us that Pride month is not just about parties and colourful parades but instead is, at its core a protest movement. Let’s work together to ensure all people are able to be visible, feel united and are equal in their rights.

Pride Month 2021

June is Pride month – a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities all around the world.

Pride is a celebration of all people coming together, showing how far LGBTQ+ rights have come, and importantly showing how much work there is still work to be done. 

Currently:

  • There are 69 countries that have laws that criminalise homosexuality.
  • The death penalty is either ‘allowed’, or evidence of its existence occurs, in 8 countries.
  • More than a third of LGBTQ+ staff (35 per cent) have hidden that they are LGBTQ+ at work for fear of discrimination.
  • Four in five LGBTQ+ people who have experienced a hate crime or incident didn’t report it to the police.
  • A third of trans people (34 per cent) have been discriminated against because of their gender identity when visiting a café, restaurant, bar or nightclub in the last year.

At NKD we would like to say thank you for joining us this month in celebrating Pride Month. There is still so much more to do, and there’s more each and every person can do everyday to make the world a fairer and equal place for all people.

That being said we would love to share some resources with you to help support the LGBTQ+ community: 

The charity we are supporting this month is akt. They support LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. They also support young people into safe homes and employment, education or training, in a welcoming and open environment that celebrates LGBTQ+ identities.
